I am currently a firefighter/paramedic in Boca Raton, Florida. Would love to move to western part of NC. Does anyone know of any cities that pay
for paramedics?

I'm sure Asheville does. Cullowhee (Western Carolina University) might... Boone probably does. Check into Cherokee and Sylva.

Asheville wants firefighter/EMT's and the competition is tough to get hired. I doubt they will pay for Paramedic status, as they run no EMS and serve only as first responders on medical calls. County has Paramedics on all their trucks, and provide EMS services to the city as well as county.

beechlover, this is an old thread, but i just came across it. i too would like to either work for buncombe co ems eventually, or move back to florida. not sure if you post on this forum anymore, but prepare for a big paycut. and now that it's almost 2012, be prepared for a higher c.o.l.

this area's great. just be prepared for the financial hit.

i'm going to be attending fire school soon and i'm very excited. you may want to look into asheville fire dept and work as a ff/emt and then do medic part-time if need be. i know in florida most ff's can make it on just working one job, but around here, almost everyone works a full-time and a part-time job. so be prepared for long hrs.
