I'm self-employed and one of our major headaches here in MA is the cost of our health insurance premiums. Does anyone know how expensive health insurance is in NC generally? We have an HMO now, but are willing to try a PPO or higher-deductible plan if it serves our purposes.

Thanks,
Dave

We couldn't find a HMO plan in NC. I personally feel the health insurance is high, but I also had an excellent plan at my previous job in CA. We are paying $300 to insure my son and me. My plan is horrible, but my son's plan only has a $200 deductible and $15 co-pay. It seems like the main company is Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

We are self employed and when we moved to Raleigh last year we actually paid a bit less for a family plan-HMO through B/C B/S. We had B/C Empire in NY now we have NC B/C B/S. We pay around 1050. per month family plan and in NY it was 1200. It is the only thing that seemed around the same price as NY other than food. Car insurance, homeowners insurance, utilities and housing costs are substantially lower. Good luck, our health care system in this country needs some major attention. Seems like moving to another state doesn't help.

Thanks to both of you for the input. What I've been able to find about NC health insurance is basically that it costs the same as MA (1K/month). Disappointing, but what can you do.
