If you live in Holly Springs, you pay to Holly Springs and Wake County. Raleigh is a seperate city by itself so you don't have to pay those taxes unlesss you live within the city limits. Those are the unforunate citizens who just received a double tax hike. Wake County just raised their property taxes, and the city of Raleigh did as well.
I tried going into each areas web site but it is not clear.
I understand if you live in Davidson you pay taxes to them as well as Meck County (what about Charlotte too)
The same for Wake - If you live in Holly Springs or any area, you pay taxes to them and wake but what determines Raleigh?
Meaning, there are 3 juristicdtions to whom you pay taxes??
My address is Davidson and I pay Cabarrus county taxes. They decided to not raise property tax this year. It's 1000,00 for every 1000,00 still. Little less than AZ not bad.
I guess no matter which area you go, stay out of the city limits so you do not get a triple whammy.
Actually, a double whammy, you are taxed by county and city. And if you are in a subdivision NEAR a city and the city wants to add to their revenue, they can take you into the fold and tax you. Believe me, this happens!
Yeah, Raleigh's annexed so much that it actually grew more (by percentage) in land area than by population in the 1990's. The reason North Raleigh is called North Raleigh by most people like it's a seperate city, is because up until the mid 90's, it wasn't part of the city, just a huge unincorperated peace of land.
We have lots of "annexation without representation"....town/city council makes the decisions but unfortunately, unless you are part of the town/city you can't vote on the officials! Therefore, they annex you and THEN you can vote to reward them by keeping them in office while you pay county and city taxes!
I have a long memory when election day rolls around (and if I think I might forget, I have a cheat sheet with names!) and I head to the polls. It may not get them out, but it makes me feel a little better.

lol- possibly you can PM us your cheet sheet- I'm a big fan of making my voice known at the ballot box- bravo
This is just a running list of the officials that I disagree with on just about everything. I keep it in my appointment calendar in the November section!! If my husband agrees with me, he copies it! (and we usually agree!!)
County property tax increases unusual for election year
By COKE ELLINGTON

Faced with rising costs for Medicaid and school construction, about a third of the state's 100 counties appear to be on the verge of raising property taxes for the next fiscal year, an unusually high number for an election year, officials say.
