Well, sorta famous.

Most of this is taken from wikipedia. Keep in mind anyone can add to the wiki. I've added my own here in bold.
I ask you to comment or add people if you know of any. I don't mean famous as in worldwide or even the entire US. To be honest, I don't know who many of these people are.

Mocksville
* Daniel Boone, lived near Mocksville 1750-59
* J. D. Gibbs, son of Joe Gibbs
* Hinton Rowan Helper
* Roy L. Williams
* Dustin Mise
* Kevin Creason, guitarist for LoveReichel No clue who this is. I have a feeling they may have added themselves, but what the heck. I'll leave it up here.
* Cat, resident supplier of gnarly hand-signs. Cat! I have no clue what his real name is. If I am remembering correctly one of the signs is to make a fist and stick out your pinky and thumb and wave in a side to side motion

Tomaroni, the flashlight guy - I have no clue how to spell his name. When I was little (I'm 25 btw) I'd wander the halls of my house at night with a flashlight and because of this my grandmother nicknamed me Tomaroni. You see when she and her sisters were little in the late 40s and 50s, a man by the name of Tom M. would wander the streets of Mocksville with his flashlight, my aunt, my grandmother's youngest sister couldn't say his name properly and called him Tomaroni

Keep in mind I was probably around 11 or younger when I heard these stories. I also recall stories of a person who had a bathtub filled with newspapers.
There was also a man, never saw him myself who constantly had his head on his shoulder due to, I think, some medical error. Either that or he had something that is pronounced tick-del-a-roo. It might have been Cat that had or has that. I don't even know what that is.

Advance:

* David Blackwell, Surveyor, pilot and vintner.
* Ronnie Townsend,General Sales Manager for Triad Dodge, former Carolina Panthers Offensive Lineman
* Aunt Eloise, morning radio personality on 104.1 WTQR in Greensboro, NC
* Dan Barret, 2004 gubernatorial candidate
* Patty Moise, former NASCAR Winston Cup driver
* Elton Sawyer, former NASCAR Winston Cup driver; currently a driver coach for Team Red Bull
* Dan Tatum, gospel singer
* John Wendel, meteorologist for WCNC television in Charlotte, NC
* Chris Perry (American football), NFL running back
