I've been following this independent movie for some time now - I just ran across it kind of randomly (long story), but I'm really fascinated by it. It has a lot of southern culture & folklore mixed with ghost stories and real hauntings in the state -- makes sense that I like it

Anyway, the point is that it's playing in Asheville!! I'm so excited b/c I missed it last time it came to town. Check it out. It's playing at the Fine Arts on 3/29 at 7:00

As a kid, we sometimes visited the area of the Lawson murders....the local folklore of that was quite interesting, and everyone seemed to have their own version of the story! Some local "paranormal investigators" even checked the area out a few times.

Default totally confused...

I've lived most of my life in western NC and know quite a bit about the "ghosts" and lore of the "Old North State". I've totally missed this one...somebody please fill me in.

On Christmas Day 1929, Stokes County tobacco farmer Charlie Lawson killed his wife and six of his seven children, then committed suicide. It has never been determined why.

^ Local legend I heard was that he was extremely racist (descendant of a plantation owner) fellow and found out his daughter got pregnant by a black man...then went nuts and, thus, killed the whole family to keep them from the "shame". Or something like that. Again...everyone in the area has heard a different version or two of the story. In the 90s though, there were a few sightings of the Klan holding ceremonies on or near the property as some type of tribute to him. (We were joyriding one night near there and saw some remnants of the bonfire! But perhaps my teen imagination got the best of me.)
