You could find a job at the several smaller medical offices in Hickory, or try the major hospitals. Frye Regional Medical Center near downtown Hickory is the recipient of numerous awards and is a great hospital. Also Catawba Valley Medical Center on the east side of the city is a good hospital too.
I always see new medical offices going up, particulary off of Tate Blvd in Hickory,near Catawba Valley Med Center.
Ofcourse, as with almost anywhere in NC there is a need for your husbands type of work.
