Whats a good place to move in NC for a young couple ? (Charlotte: buying a house)

We plan on buying a house in the next few years. Currently we live in long island in New York. As much as we both LOVE New York, we realize its not always an affordable decision. What would be a good city / suberb to live near where we would see other New Yorkers maybe ? (Just throwing that out there) I hear rumors Charlotte has a lot of New Yorkers.

Honestly, the best place to live is the place you can get a job - and that won't be easy right now.

Cost of living is lower here but remember wages are too. I wonder sometimes if others think about that when they decide "oh I'm going to move to NC because it is cheaper".
