Let 'em talk. If they keep even one of their cohort from coming to NC then it is worth it.

I guess I'll jump up on the soap box for a minute on this one. I was born and raised in Vermont, went to college in Masssachusettes and have since lived in N.J., N.C., CA. and for the last 22 years in NY (upstate). I can honestly say that I have enjoyed each and every place. Oh there is an adjustment period. You have to get to know an area to appreciate all it has to offer. I have found each place unique and interesting. I enjoy getting aquainted with the regional foods and traditions and learning about the history of an area. I have met wonderful people everywhere I have lived. That is not to say that I don't prefer some places over others.

I think you really need to be open minded and know what it is that you are looking for. Perhaps most important of all, give yourself time to settle in. Make an effort to really get to know a place and seek out those things that make that place different and special. I have seen people leave NY for other states only to return in a year or two. Often they come back to be near family. In most cases however, they never gave them selves time to settle in.

OK. I've done my preaching for the day. Someone else's turn.

Hmm, yes but it really is getting old going out and hearing the "some" loud, arrogant ones. Just come here because you want to. And if you don't find it is for you be patient and make it so you can leave.

[quote=Scholar;627793] Why are NY'ers drawn to NC over all the other available states?

The reason most New Yorkers are going to NC is because it is the closest southern state to NY. Meaning they can be home and with family quicker then any other state down south(at least along the seaboard). They still want to be somewhat near the ocean and beaches and they want it cheaper. That is why Maryland and the shores of VA get passed on. NYers are trying to get out because of the high taxes, cost of living, house prices, electric bills, aweful weather...most of the south is appealing for NYers, but the reason NC is the target is because it is only a short drive to NY.
