There was an interesting set of articles today in the local papers about how unemployment rates in the area have risen...The article notes several companies are NOT looking to hire between now and Sept. Some companies do expect layoffs and most will just remain as they area.
Interestingly, one of the reasons Bristol Myers Squib did not relocate to the area but chose Boston instead was due to the infrastructure, water and sewer issues.
Other companies are moving not because the labor market is cheaper-
Also, it notes white-collar salaries rising faster in the state than in the nation, some people question how long the cost advantage will last, and whether history will repeat itself in the form of these newly imported jobs eventually being sent overseas, as were textile jobs.
Are too many people coming to the area and while there is job growth, will people outnumber jobs created - any thoughts from anyone on this issue?
My posts are only about NC unemployment by county. The forum moderators restrict posts here to NC topics. The North Carolina data release runs a couple of weeks behind the national data.
It is several different reports from economists who study the area. go to the news and observer and search jobs and there are several reports there...If it was one article I would have pasted it here, but there are several...too much to cut and paste...there was a chart that shows areas of inc/decrease/staying the same (meaning adding no new jobs/losing jobs, I will try and find that again and post..a lot of what I discover is sometimes by accident....
Thanks, I'm curious as to the Raleigh News & Observer's source of the unemployment data for June. They didn't get it from the state unless it was unofficial.
