No, I wasn't drawing unemployment while i was working, but I did draw immediately before that job and then again right after that job, because a new extension was granted, but on my older job. I'm not sure what happened, that was a 2 week job and my only job in like 2 years, I'm not sure what the date is exactly. But all my extensions were based on the previous job, not that 2 week one.
I guess the moral is, don't take a temp. job that pays low unless you're willing to keep that. Honestly it was such a low paying one and all around terrible, that it would be about better to not work. I know that sounds bad, esp. now with so many people willing to take any work. I don't think I'd take that job back though, it was that bad.

So can anyone offer any advice to me? Can't I continue to draw off the previous job, and just cut out the 2 weeks I worked or something? Seems kinda crappy that I'm trapped because I took a terrible minimum wage job, now have to pay back like 14 weeks of benefits! I always heard the goverment finds a way to take back what it gives.
Guess its true. Sad thing is I don't have any income and probably won't for a long time.

So what extensions do you get if you do qualify for them in your 2nd benefit year? Do you start back on tier 1 with the weekly amount now based on the 2nd year determination? Do you get EB again in the 2nd benefit year?

TIA

I just found this forum today, have been searching for some answers to unemployment and the recent vote to extend benefits. I read through about 40+ of most recent pages but didn't see a question with my same situation (although some were close). There is a wealth of information and everyone seems to be very helpful! Hopefully someone can provide some help for me.

I started unemployment in 8/23/09. A couple of weeks ago I got a notice when filing my claim that my benefits would end soon. When I filed my claim on Mar 1 for the week ending 2/27/10 the website indicated my benefits were exhausted. I called ESC in Morganton (one of the reps there had spoke to our jobseeking group and said we could call with ?'s) the first of the following week since I could no longer file. I asked about my status as I thought that if I were ended my 26 weeks UI before Feb 28 I would start Tier 1. However, he said that no I had to have already been on Tier1 before Feb 28 and that I had used all benefits. Since the extension had not yet passed (as of that date), unless there was an extension, I would not be able to collect any more.

Since there was a vote to extend benefits, I thought the system would allow me to start filing, however, I can not (just the 'your benefits are exhausted' message). Do I have to reapply? Do I have to go in person to the EXC office or can anything be done via web?

Thanks for any help!

I emailed my regional claims specialist today and asked if Tier 4 was going to be retroactive to the week after claimants received their last payment and she said yes. However, although they're planning on running the Tier 4 programming on Wednesday night, they haven't yet shared exactly what we're supposed to do (re-open claims, file weeks, etc) after they run the programming; whether there will be a manual intervention required on our part.

Another coworker that was laid off at the same time as I was last year, has called an asked me if I had also recieved a notice of an NCUI528 to be turned into our previous employer..?
I'm clueless and haven't recieved anything in the mail concerning anything like that.
Of course I started to wonder what the form was

Thanks again!
I did some searching today and couldn't find anything, then I asked a colleague of mine who has worked for ESC for more than 20 years and she hadn't heard of a NCUI528. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist. However we have no need to deal with certain forms, nor do we have access to certain forms so it's hard to say exactly what it is, although I do still believe it has something to do with the employer.

If you qualify for extensions in your 2nd benefit year, then yes, you would start over again with Tier 1. The weekly benefit amount would be the same as what your regular UI is in that new benefit year.

I'll admit, I am unsure about two rounds of EB. I will say, though, that if in a 2nd benefit year you do not qualify for extensions and have your unused extension money from your old benefit year pulled forward into your new benefit year, EB is not pulled forward, only EUC (Tier 1, 2, 3, 4). Receiving a 2nd round of regular UI acts like a stop for EB to be pulled forward. Thus, it would almost seem that a 2nd round of regular UI would somehow supersede EB. But again, I'm not certain.

Your claim will require manual intervention; someone must perform a transaction to reopen your claim. You don't have to re-apply, per se, it's just a matter of getting your claim to kick back in since the phase out date was extended.

I'm thinking you need what's called a "dummy A1", with the effective date of Tier 1 on the B.46 screen (probably shows 99/99/99) put into the "Old Tier 1" field, and 02282010 put into the "New Tier 1" field. And leave the "redetermine all" field blank.

That would be my guess, hopefully you can get ahold of someone at your local office and see if they concur and can do that for you.

Hey thanks for checking on that.
I hadn't found anything about that form at all. I'm still curious as to what's going on with her, but that's her business I suppose(ha!)
I haven't gotten anything strange like hat in the mail, so it is what it is Thanks again!
