Some of there "inspection" standards appear to be completely subjective to the guy inspecting. First guy I went to, said, no way I could pass, my back tires are bald...They didnt look bald to me, but he said he would be happy to put new tires on for a couple hundred! Took it to another guy and passed...hmmmm

Default It will never happen

NC considers ending vehicle safety inspections (http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/N/NC_XGR_SAFETY_INSPECTIONS_NCOL-?SITE=NCASH&SECTION=STATE&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT - broken link)

This was also tried a year or so ago, it will never happen, the state will never let go of a revenue stream. NC residents spend more than $80 million a year for inspections, but that holds very little sway with Raleigh, they seem to enjoy nickle and dimeing residents in anyway they can.

The only way this will actually happen is if it can be shown that the inspection program costs the state money, and if this can be show I would still expect the state to increase the fees, vs. ending inspections.

And there is no mention of polution inspections, so the inconvenience and expense of an 'inspection' every year will still be there.
