I know NC retired government workers are free from the tax.
I am a retired police officer from NJ.
We asked people about this on our last trip and a couple told us they didn't pay ANY income tax.
Anybody out there who can help?
Out of state.........retired............ex police (does that matter?)

Sorry, but it I think that it is only federal workers and NC retirees who enjoy this advantage. Since NC employees do not have to pay a state income tax there was a lawsuit filed by retired feds who are by law required to enjoy the same breaks as state employees. I think it is called the Bailey Act.
If I am wrong on this I am sure somebody will correct me.
