I would like to know if anyone out there, would share their experiences relocating from the Danbury area in CT. to NC. Things up here are really getting out of control. It seems like after you pay your electric bill and oil bill etc., you got nothing left over. Do not even mention the gasoline. Anyway, we are thinking about relocating in the future to another state. NC is very nice and less expensive than CT. I 'am a CPA, so I think I can find a job fairly quickly. Anyway, if someone can share their experiences, I would greatly apreciate it.
While I'm not relocating directly from Danbury, I am from that area. I grew up in New Fairfield, right next door. My parents moved away from CT about 10 yrs ago. I'm currently living in MA, and I'm moving to Apex NC early this fall. That area of Fairfield County, CT has changed a lot in the last few years - lots of growth. I do remember my parents utility bills being astronomical - especially heat in the winter. We had electric heat, yes, in New England winters. I'm very familiar with the Danbury area and I have relatives in Apex and I have visited several times. What type of comparison between the two areas are you looking for?
I am on LI so costs are very similar but I will tell you, that you have to consider other things then costs as believe or not, I will only be saving a few thousand dollars a yr by relocating. while taxes are less, elec is comparable, the winters are not so cold so the heating is less but food, clothers etc are similar...there are certain things like HOA fees (if you live in an area that has it), tax on your car that we do not have here but they have there so a lot evens out in the end...it is all relative...I think quality is better in NC and what you get for your dollar in terms of housing...taxes are less but they have a lot of issues with schools, playing devils adovocate too, our school taxes are in sane and they say you get what you pay for but I do not see the value of what we pay to the schools meaning we are not getting anything extra for what we pay-
The basic, cost relief, less of a mortgage, education and quality of life. The quality of life up here is very good but at the rate of everything going up, it will be impossible to continue to live here.
Remember costs are going up down there too due to growth and while here will always be more, you also have to take into consideration salary..there will be a salary difference, the amount is dependant on what you do...
I would assume that salary is close - go to salary.com and you can compare. I know the American Aca for CPA I believe just relocated their HQ down to NC...
