my husband, daughter and I are wanting to relocate. We have looked at NC, SC and Tennessee. We have family and friends in all 3 states and are feeling pulled in no particular direction. We are both in the wine and spirit industry. We are looking for a family enviroment, relatively short commute times (under 30 minutes) and affordable housing. Does anyone have any insight to which state would be the best for us or comparisons. We love the outdoors and warm weather and currently live in a state where we have no sales tax. By the way, my husband is old school and i am more liberal. i can learn to be more old school but he will never be more liberal.

Didn't someone post once that there were some wineries up around the Asheville area? Beyond that, I know nothing about wine. I don't drink it or anything else.

It's funny, i've been in this industry for the last 7 years and probably drink the least out of everyone i know. I'm more concerned about areas and raising my family. it seems like there are an awful lot of people going to NC or SC and i'm wondering if it won't been completely overcrowded and overrun in the next 5 years.

You can bet Snow Hill won't be over run and over crowded. No one moves here on purpose. LOL
Most people who live here where either born here or marry someone that was born here. Of course we have Robert across the street who moved here on purpose. And boy is he an riot. I have stories about this guy.

The only thing I might add (since you mention you are in the wine and spirit industry) if you are considering SC (which is where I am located) is that we have what is called the Blue Law (you are not able to purchase alcohol in the stores on Sunday...and you can not purchase a drink in restaurants until after 1:30pm on Sunday's).

If I remember correctly, I believe there's a growing wine industry in the Yadkin Valley of NC. And Forsyth County too, I think. Seems like there's a winery near Winston-Salem. So y'all should do well in the Piedmont and western parts of the state if you want to continue in the wine industry.

All the best.
