O.k., so I have posted a similiar thread earlier and since then I have grab some much needed information from some great sounded people. So I figured with a deadline vast approaching I would do one more round of figuring this out. I have two job offerings in Charolette and Chapel Hill, the one in Charolette is about 10K less per year and less vaca but other than that is very similiar to the Chapel Hill offering. I am coming from Boston where I have lived for the past 10years. Love the city but want to try something different. I am trying to figure out where would be the best fit for me, I have visited both areas and have loved them both. I am looking for a place where a single male in his late 20s almost 30s can meet people, have a variety of things to do when not at work, and the people are friendly. I am used to the young single buisness proff., walking type city of Boston, where there is always something going on either bars, restaurants, sports..etc etc. I have it down to either Charolette (uptown), Raleigh (Glenwoodsouth), or ChapelHill. Any tips/advice that can be given I would love it!! Thanks so much.
I guess it boils down to which do you prefer to start a new beginning. Which city will provide for your day to day needs beside if the city you choose doesn't plus your only about 3 hours away if you want to visit another city
Yeah, I would go with more money/vaca. Chapel Hill is expensive, but you can live in Durham for much less and with a short commute. You can always visit Charlotte and if you find out the Triangle isn't for you, you can always move to Charlotte later.
Charlotte is awesome and they have built a whole lot of new stuff all over town. With an old manufacturing base, they have some awesome housing options and a lot to do. I was there in my late twenties and loved having the sports and all the growing city nightlife but still relatively quiet. I'm in Raleigh and it's wonderful but Chapel Hill is pretty quiet. Durham is a growing option with a lot to do and Chapel Hill is a short drive. I still vote Charlotte, though.
Politically, you'll feel more at home in Chapel Hill than Charlotte. That is, of course, if you felt at home in Boston.
I live part time in Glenwood South and love it.
