I am going to buy a used vehicle for one of my kids. We checked it out today and it looks like we'll proceed. It's located about an hour from my house, just over the SC border.

Not having bought privately here before, I want to be sure I am taking the right steps...

1) The vehicle is currently not registered. Once I take the title, keys, and bill of sale, how would I get the car to my home? Do I have to go to DMV with these docs and then Go BACK to pickup the car?

2) How does NC state inspection play into this? Do I register the vehicle and then get it inspected, or do I have to get it inspected before going to register it? How do I do that if it's not registered now and I can't drive it?

3) OR, can I drive it w/o a tag to get it home? Or at least to a inspection place? I can leave it there while I get the DMV work done.

I appreciate some guidance on this one!

You can drive the car temporarily with no registration as long as you have the title and bill of sale. I don't know how long you can do this--I think 10 days but I'm not sure about that. Since you're buying the car out of state you won't need to get it inspected until you renew your registration after one year.
