I just saw something in the mail from FEMA pertaining to our property being the flood plain. Just something they send each year, I guess. We are supposed to sign it to show that we received it.

At the end of the document it lists "flood related insurance claims on this property since 1978" and shows that in 2006 there was a $15,000 claim on the property. We bought it in 2007. The owners before were here 2005-2007.

They gave us the Statement of Disclosure form, of course, and it was acknowledged that it was in the flood plain, but not that this had happened. it seems significant to me to not disclose something this major that happened just a year before our transaction.

I will call FEMA tomorrow and see if I can get any more info on what the claim was for. Also, I have to dig up a copy of the the form, I hope I have it or that it is on record with our lawyer or the county.

Any idea on how significant this is?
