I'm definitely not moving from Michigan. I'm from another state but I'm almost afraid to say where if you know what I mean !!! Let me just say that I don't plan on bringing my state's way of life with me when I move. I totally respect other ways of life and don't plan on irritating any NC natives. I hope to make a good neighbor !

Are you guys in Cary yet. My son is 12 he is PDD-NOS. I have been looking for a place to move to so that he will have support as a teen and programs for young adults. Why did you pick Cary. Do you feel that Cary would be a goods fit for us.

We are living in Cary and like it very much. There are resources available but we haven't taken advantage of most of them so I can't offer you much guidance.

Hi, I live close by Cary and am a single mom with a newly diagnosed 2 year old. How long ago was it that you saw this school?

I have been to a number of autism training programs. Many if not most of them state that NC is the best state in the union to have a child in school with autism. I am sure some angry parents will dispute this, but I have heard it over and over.

I can't help you out much, other than offer that bit of encouragement. I know there is an office of some sort in Greenville, which is a satellite to a UNC-Chapel Hill centered program.

Good Luck.

This is a web search of just the Triangle. Charlotte and the Triad (Greensboro, Winston-Salem) my have additional resources:

CHART: Chapel Hill Autism Resources and Tools

This organization in Chapel Hill connects families with resources. They might have info. I found this link by searching for "autism support nc" in the "blog search" tool in google. There may be other blogs with great info or contacts.

I completely understand!! You are not alone! I am the mother of 3 special needs children, all with communication issues and developmental disabilities, my boys both have autism and my youngest has a combined autism and ADHD, my oldest and first born has a speech impairment and dyslexia...I just moved here and am far too used to the emotional roller coasters both my children and myself go through, not to mention the stares, and assumptions from the mass majority of people we encounter every day. Unfortunately for all of us, there is a lack of care and qualified individuals even in the self contained classrooms. I just moved to Chatham county from Jacksonville fl which was horrible for the kids but I'm praying for a miracle. I did find an equestrian program for children with autism and related disabilies in this county and just started looking into that for them. As for schools, the smaller the population...the better attention, education and compassion the kids get it seems. God bless you and your ventures, I hope you get the help you are looking for. I am on a search for the best as well.
