We are finally settled and would like to start locating places that sell unique and interesting pottery in North Carolina. We are most interested in pottery made locally, but will consider some imported pottery from the Americas. We would be very appreciative of any suggestions you may have. Places that are open on Saturdays would be ideal.

Happy New Year to you! Seagrove Pottery, Go and google search this area, because this area is full of local artist in pottery. Also, Asheville, with the River District, downtown, New Morning Gallery, as well as many individuals that have their own studios. Blowing Rock has the Bolick family pottery off of 321 to Blackberry Road. Actually, any of the resort or artsy areas have local artist. Catawba County has a large Pottery show at the convention center in March. I have the name somewhere of the folks that help sponser this. I'll see if I can find it. Near Catawba county, where the people still dig their own clay for the pots, live in this area. Some are very collectable. So you see, you do not need to go outside of N.C. to find wonderful pottery.
Check out the arts district in Winston-Salem. Lots of local potters have stuff in smaller galleries there, and the Piedmont Craftsmen art gallery is great.
Check out sharpepots.com. They are in Durham,NC. Totally different and amazing work. I saw and purchased some of their "art" at the Seafood Festival this year. I've never seen anything like it before. Happy New Year.
North Carolina is a fabulous state for pottery lovers. There are highly skilled potters all over the state, many who have national and international reputations. You'll never run out of places to go.
When you go to Seagrove be sure to check out the NC Pottery Center. It's a wonderful statewide resource.
Piedmont Craftsmen (mentioned above) is one of the top fine craft guilds in the country. It consists of members from throughout the entire Southeast, not just NC, who have to pass a rigorous jury process to be accepted. You can see examples of most of their members' work on the PCI web site. The PCI gallery (corner of 6th & Trade in the heart of Winston-Salem) is one of the best craft galleries you'll find anywhere. The PCI craft fair is held the weekend before Thanksgiving each year at the Benton Convention Center in Winston-Salem. There's more info on the web site.
Southern Highland Craft Guild is another southeastern treasure located in NC. It consists of members who live in "Appalachian" counties in several states. The Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway outside Asheville, with its crafts shop and rotating exhibits, is the showcase for Southern Highland members. They also hold two large craft fairs each year (July and October) in downtown Asheville.
The area surrounding the Penland School of Crafts is yet another treasure trove for pottery lovers. In the same area, the Toe River Arts Council hosts two self-guided studio tours each year (spring and early Dec) that include a lot of wonderful potters. One of the best things about the studio tours is that you get to visit actual studios, some of which aren't usually open to the public.
