In the Charlotte Observer, it reported the top states where newcomers are coming from when they move to the Charlotte area. In order they are:
1. New York
2. Florida
3. Virginia
4. Georgia
5. Texas
6. Ohio
7. New Jersey
8. California
9. Maryland
10. Alabama
It was also reported than in 1 years time, 80,000 people moved to the Charlotte area. Which is more than the total population of Asheville. To me it was alot more than I thought was possible. I never thought there was that much room here for 80,000 people a year. Frightening to what it will be in the coming years..
Ofcourse the positives were listed as increasing the "diversity" of the culture here. It is laughable because with 80,000 people moving here a year, it seems the only the culture that needs to be saved is the Carolinas.
Well, that 80k is misleading. Yes, 80,000 people may have moved to Charlotte, but that's only gross migration. If you used net migration, which takes into account the number of people leaving. the numbers would be lower. Still very high on a national standard, but not a gain of 80,000 people in one year soley from migration.
I saw the article too and the article stated that this survery did not include those who move within the Carolinas, so the actual number of newcomers each year is much higher.
There is actually an entire newcomer section today that was pretty helpful, it talked about weather, you could pick a region from the map and you could see the schools in the area and there is a video - the link for that is:
Actually if you are in the Union county area that is not hard to believe. Charlotte is branching out to all surrounding counties. There is nothing but newcomers. Nothing is being preserved, acres of farm and forest bulldozed in a days time to make room for progress. NC will pay for this unchecked growth with taxes and more overcrowding issues in the comng year.
One person looks at Birkdale with all the shops and pruned bushes and says "man this is a beautiful place," while a different person looks at green pastures and clear creeks and thinks "man this is a beautiful place." Id prefer a little bit of both but developers are good at convincing citys to build more shopping centers...
There is still a moratorium on building in Union County, right?
