Hi. I am seriously considering a move to either the Raleigh, N.C. area or the Asheville, N.C. area. I'm really hoping to make my next move my final move, state wise, having lived many years in N.Y., NV., and now CA. So please tell me, those of you who have made the move to either Raleigh and surrounding areas or Asheville and surrounding areas---any regrets on your dsecision? Wether the regrets be big or small, or none at all, I'd really love to know. So what do you think, To live and die in N.C.?? Thanks for any responses!
The most important thing is, "why?" What is your motivation for choosing NC? Do you have a job offer here (if not, you're in for a shock--one of the highest unemployment figures in the US right now)? Family? Ever visited at all? Or did you just hear that NC is a good place to go, so you're packing your bags (you'd be surprised how many come here in just that fashion)?
It's always best to learn as much as you can about the specific area you're moving to, and how it meets YOUR needs (not the needs of Fortune magazine, or some such), has job openings in YOUR field, and the kind of lifestyle YOU are looking for.
Well said, Francois. In my field, and in my wifes, we can pretty much transfer to almost any state in the U.S., including N.C. Have never been there, will be visiting soon, have family in S.C. and N.C. Yeah, I'm hearing some good things and some bad. for both areas I've mentioned. But I'M hoping to hear from those who have "been there, Done that." So C'mon folks--would love to know--regrets, big or small, or none at all?
It would greatly help us to know what you are looking for, your likes and dislikes. People can give you testamonials till the cows come home, but how many would be relevant without more information from you?
I grew up in Raleigh but haven't "lived" there in over 25 years, so I can't give you current impressions. I visit Asheville a lot but have never lived there.
I lived my entire life in NC until 2008 when we moved to SC due to hubby's job transfer (hence my discovey of C-D). I'm a Tarheel through and through and hope to eventually live fulltime in NC again.
