I've seen this question asked in the past, but nothing too recent that I could find. Crime and good places to live do change. I've been reading that since 2006 they've been "working" on lowering the crime and cleaning up the city.
I was wondering if Fayetteville and the the surrounding area have improved on the amount of crime.
I live in a city of around 60,000 in WI. and crime isn't an issue, many leave their cars outside unlocked overnight, I see some people leave their garage doors open and CCW isn't felt like it's NEEDED.
I was wondering if anyone could help us out finding a safe area to live. Our budget is around $900/mo, we would like an apartment within no more than a 20-25 minute drive to the base.
So my 2 questions are, if they improved the area and good and bad communities to live.
I plan on using this forum for a long time, so your posts will be read and responded to by me.
Thanks in advance.
Just found Fairway Pointe (www.fairwaypointecondos.com) for my father. Seems to be a safe gated community 15 minutes from Bragg.
We were looking at the cheeper homes and the total payment, mortgage, taxes, monthy fees for cable, internet etc. ended up a little over $1,100 a month. Its a bit more then you asked for but the community seems amazing...
Honestly, Fayetteville has alot of crime. If you look at the Fayetteville City Police website, they have a crime map that might be helpful. Also, I think the local newspaper, Fayetteville Observer, has a crime map as well.
And the Fayetteville Police department announced just in the last week or so that crime IN Fayetteville was actually down significantly for the first time in several years.
okay, well now we established that Fayetteville has higher crime. Can someone tell me good/safe places to live that fit my criteria in the original post?
If you are expecting the same crime-free place that you had in Wisconsin, you will be greatly disappointed. Like I mentioned earlier, check the crime maps. I lived in Country Club North and it was safe enough. It seemed to be an oasis between Ramsey St. and the Murchinson Road area. That is how Fayetteville is, safe in one small area and then lots of crime a few blocks over. The Fayetteville Observer also has rentals listed. If you are military, I believe they also maintain a list of housing. My personal experience is that I was robbed x2 at gunpoint. Once in a Walmart parking lot at 9pm and another time while getting my haircut at a beauty shop. Southern Pines is another option as the back gate exits near there. Good luck with your move.
I've lived here all my life and have never encountered crime, or been personally affected by it. If you were at the Walmart at Skibo at 9pm, that's on you. NEVER go to the Walmart on Skibo! Go to the one on 401 or Ramsey!
