Qute correct. I myself have just recently come to the area for a new job opportunity, but I have a federal position working with the military. Most of the well paying jobs in the area are connected to MCAB New River or Camp Lejeune in a military or federal capacity. A job as a private contractor for Boeing or one of the big defense contractors is a possibility. However, unless the OP has the in-demand technical skills that are required for these positions, he/she will probably have to take one of the service related jobs around here: Restarants/Pawn Shops/Walmart/Auto Services......or swinging around a pole for money.

The green countryside still exists and rather basing any decision on hearsay, would recommend re-visiting before you completely eliminate the possibility of living there.
