Let me give you one difference on the interstate system. When you drive into Charlotte or Raleigh and see signs for the inner loop or outer loop and have a few seconds to figure out what this means it can get hectic. Outer loop means driving around the city counter clockwise. The inner loop is clockwise. I have never seen this in anyplace except NC. I am used the signs indicating directions.

Wow...can't believe no one posted about the turns at a stop sign yet!

I'm from IL, lived in NC for 8 years, and now in PA. Only in NC do they have this BIZARRE to me road rule...

If you are at a cross road, with yours and opposite having stop signs...and the cross road does not....

and you want to turn LEFT, and the opposite driver wants to go straight....

they automatically have right of way.

Doesn't matter if there's 10 cars in a row that want to go straight and you were there LONG before them, they have right of way.

How bizarre is that? I was always taught you take turns.

The number one rule of driving in North Carolina is that your directional will make a better back scratcher than an actual directional.

This made total sense to me and I like it.

I hate going to another city and get on their beltloop and Im told to go I333 west but it a belt loop so therefore it not just a east west highway it a north south as well. since it is a circle

I never thought that was bizarre. How would you take turns? I see alot of wrecks happening that way. I never imagined that every state didn't have that law.

I think it is going to take me a while to get used to driving in NC. Also, do you have to re-take your drivers test if you move from out of state?
