.very warm and dry weather is forecast for today with high
temperatures well into the 70s with some 80 degree readings
likely. Minimum relative humidity will drop into the teens
southwest and into the 20s northwest and central. Southerly to
southwesterly winds will increase through the day...to 20 to 25 mph
with gusts to 30 mph at times. The combination of winds...low relative
humidity and dry fuels will create the potential for explosive
fire growth. The red flag warning includes all counties from the
montana border as far east as the turtle mountains and the james
river basin.
Another warm...dry...and windy day is expected on saturday. In
southwestern north dakota high temperatures are expected to reach
into the low to mid 70s with minimum relative humidity around 20s
percent. Southeast winds are expected to increase to 20 to 25 mph
with gusts to near 30 mph in the afternoon. These conditions have
prompted a fire weather watch for counties in southwestern north
dakota...including mckenzie and dunn counties southward to the
south dakota border. Cities and towns in the watch include watford
city and killdeer...beach and dickinson...bowman and hettinger.

humidity...gusty south and southwest winds...and dry vegetation for
northwestern and central north dakota...
* affected area...northwestern and central north dakota as far
east as the turtle mountains and the james river basin.
* south winds will increase to 20 to 25 mph...with gusts to 30 mph
likely.
* relative humidity will reach 20 to 25 percent this afternoon.
* temperatures will rise into the 70s...with some 80 degree
readings possible south central.
* the winds...low relative humidity...and very dry vegetation
will create the potential for explosive fire growth late

missouri river. Combined with very dry vegetation across the
state...a red flag warning will remain in effect until 10 pm
cdt this evening.
A red flag warning has been issued for all of western and most of
central north dakota for monday afternoon and early evening. Very
strong south winds of 25 to 40 mph will combine with relative
humidity of 15 to 25 percent to raise the fire danger index into
the extreme category for much of western and central north dakota.
A fire weather watch has been issued for all of west and most of
central north dakota for tuesday. Westerly winds of 15 to 30 mph
will combine with afternoon humidities in the teens to lower 20s
to raise the fire danger into the very high category.

...strong winds likely monday night into tuesday...
.strong winds will develop monday night over southwest north
dakota and spread to central north dakota overnight monday and
continue through tuesday. Low pressure moving from the central
rockies to the northern plains will create a strong southerly flow
on monday over the region. Winds will become west and increase
monday night over southwest north dakota. The strong winds will
spread east overnight and continue into tuesday.
The winds will decrease from west to east tuesday evening. However
if you are planning travel across southwest through south central
north dakota late monday and tuesday...driving may become
difficult...especially in high profile vehicles.

The national weather service in bismarck has issued a high wind
watch...which is in effect from late monday night through tuesday
evening.
* winds will increase monday evening over southwest and west
central north dakota and spread east overnight.
* west winds of 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph.
* travel may become difficult for high profile vehicles. Those
working outside and in elevated areas such as rooftops and
towers should use extra caution.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous
high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph...and or
gusts of 58 mph or higher may occur. Continue to monitor the

this afternoon and early evening...
.a cold front will move into far western north dakota by midday
today...and enter the james river valley by early evening. Record
warmth is forecast ahead of the cold front with highs in the mid
to upper 70s for much of western and central north dakota...with
lower 80s across the south central. Westerly winds with gusts up
to 35 mph are possible behind the front with relative humidity
levels falling to the 15 to 25 percent range...with temperatures
still remaining in the 60s and 70s behind the front. When combined
with the abundance of dry fuels and lack of green up...critical
fire weather conditions are expected across much of the area this
afternoon and early evening. Strong northwest winds may continue
tonight...especially across the southwest and south central.
However...relative humidity values will rise above critical levels
tonight.
