i've no oilfield exp. am an xray tech....been in williston about a month now and still no job.......been to the employment office, often! the doors knocked on say apply online as does most of the job service....had only 3 hits and 1 possible pending. is there a better way to see results?
start checking around in the surrounding areas....Dickinson and Belfield, I imagine, places east and north also.
The small local office seems to have very little to do with the main offices...I hope, the smaller office will have guys that talk to you. I Williston it seemed like they just wanted you to fill out applications online and or if you filled out a paper app, some office clerk just took the paper and said thank you. And placed your app on the pile with the other 100 apps they had that day....
Have you tried finding any pipeline inspection contractors? As an x-ray tech with the qualifications, you should be able to at least be the "helper" for the inspector. DOT pipeline projects do have trouble from time to time finding qualified contractors to perform the x-ray inspections.
Do you dress in city clothing or do you have workmans clothing on....no brand new and shiny either.
Go buy some old Carharts and work shirt at Goodwill maybe.
If you look like you stepped out of the hospital and look too "clean" people may think you can't do the maual labor part of the job.
Are you small in stature? I know , not PC, but if you don't look like you can handle physical labor they might be shying away from you.
Maybe find a short term temp job as a laborer, proving yourself.
One thing I am having to get use to is the idea that oil field workers move around between companies...a lot it seems. So maybe start at rock bottom and prove yourself able and continue looking.
