There seem to be a lot written on low temps, snow, ice, but what about a nice thunderstorm? I live in Northern California and the weather is pretty blah. I’m hoping to experience some of those good bowel-shaking thunderstorms when I move to Fargo.
Does anyone else love this kind of weather and can you share your experiences?

I work for the National Weather Service in Grand Forks ND and we forecast for eastern ND and northwest MN... and yes for sure you will see many thunderstorms in Fargo. Several times a summer, the area experiences widespread severe weather outbreaks....with severe wind gusts and hail the big threat. While fortunately tornadoes havent recently hit Fargo....one of the first F5 Tornadoes nationwide ever studied with film hit Fargo in 1957.
So rest assured....you will see storms. We get it all in the Red River valley....
Severe winter storms and severe summer storms. Also some quiet days thrown in.
I moved to N.D. in 81' from So. Cal. to Dickinson N.D.. I was terrified every time there was tornado warning. My Husband laughed cause I would pack the kids downstairs, w/ sleeping bags etc. to sit it out in our finished basement. My first real close call was years later in 97, in Findley/Sharon area, after we were given a farmhouse to live in following our home being flooded in Grand Forks. We lived in a little house on Hwy 32, unknown to me at the time, famous for any type storm, tornado type weather passing right over the area. We were yet again down in the cellar, mud walls, boards for floors, hugging our pillows. My son said, Mom I just saw a snake poke his head out of the wall. I said, well if he doesn't come out were good. LOL, Quite an experience. We were really blessed to have this house, and spent several evenings down there w/ storms. You'll love it.
As a weather geek....hearing the tornado sirens go off gave me chills and such excitement. Nowadays if there is severe weather around I often am the one issuing the warnings, but the excitement is still there....just a bit differently focused.
The largest hail storm in Grand Forks since I moved was around Mothers Day (I think 2000)....just after I got the roof replaced... golf ball hail on the south side of town. Since then over the past several years nothing much in the city. Northwood sure got hit with the F4/F5 Tornado a few years ago. Nice to see they have recovered. And yes what is it about Finley-Sharon/Cooperstown area for hail....

LOL, this past summer there was a error with that siren here and it went off all the time. I was like "Where can I find out if real" but then just turned on the cable channel that gives the watnings.
I too love thunderstorms I got use to them in central Mexico where they are constant during rainy season. Here too there were a few. I love when they get loud gradually then "POW"
