I did not know there was a township named Haram in England. There is an island off the North Sea coast of Norway so named. It is north of Bergen and Trondheim too, I believe, near the port of Alesund. Haram was my mother's maiden name, same as the island where she was borne.Lahuela

The question that always came to my mind with respect to my mother's maiden name and self-same place name of her birth was, what came first, the place name or the family name? I would like to know what 'haram' may have meant in old Norse.
