I'm moving to the Bismarck area and I have some questions. I must have high speed internet.
1) Who are the highspeed internet providers?
2) I'll be working in Bismarck. I would prefer to live in one of the small outlying towns. How is the internet access outside of Bismarck?
3) I will need to rent at first(buy later). Is it realistic to expect to be able to find a rental outside of Bismarck.
Thanks!

I'm sure high speed is spotty in the outlying towns, but I know you can always get satellite high speed internet, it's a bit spedy (probably $70/month). I forget the name of the company, but my cousin who lives in Barton, ND (find that on a map), has it.

Thanks for the information. What you say make sense. I hope maybe they have cable out in the smaller towns. If they have cable often the cable company will offer internet access too.
I'm very happy about moving. Looking forward to it.

If you dont mind the city of bismarck, I would live there, between fuel costs, the high speed internet cost and the availability of rentals in small outlying towns, I would rent an apt in Bismarck, you can get internet through Midcontinent cable, Qwest, BTI net and of course slow connections like AOL and People PC.

I'm thinking this is probably the best choice also. Thanks for the list of providers.

Bismarck is served by Midcontinent Communications. Locally, they offer digital cable, broadband, and telephone. Same goes for Mandan, just across the river from Bismarck. (Mandan has about 18,000 people). Lincoln, also has all 3 services. Lincoln is about 7 miles south east of Bismarck 2,500 (strictly residential...no apartments)... to the north of Bismarck about 22 miles on a 4lane divided is the town of Wilton 700 people, which has cable and broadband....and another 15 miles north (37 miles from Bismarck) is Washburn 1,200 people...they too have cable and broadband. (all served by Midcontinent). Bismarck and the rural subdivisions also can get BTI net...high speed internet wireless...but as someone already said...it is spendier than Midco.

FWIW, I just bought a house in Lincoln two months ago and absolutely love it. You can get a brand-new construction (with plenty more being built by the day) for around 150K - for a first-time home buyer, I'm actually paying less than I would for an apartment.
Good luck!

For that home, is that including the specials or are there no specials on those new construction areas?
My father in law has a ranch about 5 - 10 minutes east of bismarck on hwy 10near where that one puppy mill was. That area is really nice around there and he can get high speed internet through Midcontinent I believe as well (he gets digital cable, etc.
Best bet though, I would just move into an apartment in town or at least on the outskirts . If you are just looking for something not hectic, compared to out east, bismarck on its busiest is a quiet day compared to out there. Drive alittle ways (not much mind you) and whammo, wide open spaces.

no specials on my street at least - Haywood Drive. Most are built by Rick Marchus at Marchus Homes.

Thanks for the info. I would get a kick out of being able to live in Bismarck as I like the area, heck my father in law has stated before he would give us land to build a house on too. Just like my job a lot here.
