Hello all,

This is my first post on city data.
I live in Halifax NS (Canada) and plan on driving to Calgary AB (also Canada) this spring.
I plan on driving through the US to get there (I 94 through MN, ND & MT, specifically).
My question is: when is this stretch of I 94 reasonably free of snowstorms/blizzards/freezing rain/black ice/other winter conditions that make driving dangerous?

Thanks

Spryman

I have heard Halifax is a great city....would love to go there someday as well as Moncton. For your question....the threat for winter storms continues into late March and early April. Once you move past Easter....the threat diminishes greatly....as often warm enough for liquid or snow at temperatures around or just above freezing and less road impacts. But all interstates are well maintained and plowed...sanded and salted well if needed. Worst of the travel is usually in blowing snow events when visibility and not road conditions per se are the issue. Once you get past late March that threat is very low too as snowfall that time of year is often wet and heavy and doesnt blow around much.

Now...you mentioned going to Calgary....so you will probably take I-15 north to Cutbank and then up.... so avoiding the mountain passes is a good idea as they can have snow storms in the rockies well into May or even early June at the highest passes.
