with emphasis on "no" at the end.

Minot is not an English word and is not an English name.
Henry Davis Minot must have had some French in his family tree,
because the noun "minot" is a pre-metric French unit of measurement.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minot_(volume)

Correct pronunciation is just like this:
Perrot-Minot pronunciation: How to pronounce Perrot-Minot in French

kind of like saying Ross Perot.

Saw something on tv last night about the ICBMs in Minot
and they said "mine-it", I'm like, I know that ain't right. I always
read it as me-no. just like John Henry Cabot also. It's not "cabbit"
it's "cah-bo".
How many North Dakota people pronounce it the right way ?

Everyone that I know calls it Minot, not mine-it or me-no but mine-ot. The right way is up for interpretation, there are many names that while they would be pronounced differently in other countries they are pronounced different here in the US.

ok, just wondering if anyone there pronounced it correctly, in its original
French word form. I guess not.

That is exactly the way all the native locals pronounce it. Non locals, or natives, call it "My Not".

I have lived in or near WHY-NOT MINOT my entire life, and I can assure you that not a single person from here pronounces it with an emphasis on "no" at the end. Minot is pronounced to rhyme with WHY NOT. For awhile that was the town slogan, "Why Not Minot?". Guess I missed out on the French connection back in Jr high when we studied local history - I don't recall learning that at all, but that was awhile back.........................................lol .

This is actually VERY common. (That place-names quickly lose their original pronunciations)

Pierre, SD is pronounced "peer", not "Pee-air"
Norfolk, NE is pronounced "norfoRk"
Dubois, WY isn't DueBwah, it's "Due-boys"

etc, etc.

The way the locals pronounce it IS the correct version. It's their town.

You're 100% wrong about Cabot. It's not French. John Cabot is the English translation of his birth name, Giovanni Caboto. He was Italian, not French.

^This. Local pronunciation usually takes priority:

New Madrid, MO isn't said like the Spanish city but it "new MAA-drid"

Lebanon TX is "LEB-buh-nin"

Vallejo CA isn't "Va-yay-ho" but "Va-LAY-oh"

Louisville KY is "Loo-uh-vll"
