Hi,

My Dad Jim Thompson grew up in Neche and graduated from high school there in 1939, he went on to College at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington.
His sister, Mary or "Mid" married a Thacker from the area and moved west as well
His folks Fred and Esther Thompson moved to Spokane a bit later but two Thomposn boys remained - Charlie Thompson and Tom Thompson both died back in the 1970's.

Does anyone remember anything of the family?

Default Scratch-Yer-Butt, ND.....The T man??

Although I wasn't born until the late 70's, I do live in the area and may have a suggestion for you. My neighbor is a 'Lifer' and may know something about the family. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post phone numbers on here, but you can let me know and I'd be happy to put you in touch with someone who may have an answer for you.

Hello!! I have a question for you since you currently live in Neche. My family and I want to move to ND--we once lived in Cavalier, a while ago--and we see that there is a great house for sale in the Neche/Bathgate area. I have school aged children and an older parent living with me. I don't know much about that area..can you tell me some things--good and bad?
Any information would be appreciated! Thank you so much!

Neche is a pretty small town and Pembina and Neche residents both go to the elementary in Neche and the high school students are bused to Pembina. I don't know about Neche but I do know that Pembina has some of the nicest people. The down side of living in Neche is being close to the Canadian port and being so far away from any major shopping. There is no grocery store or restaurant in Neche but Pembina (20 minutes away) has a grocery store. I would say it's about an hour and 20 minutes to Grand Forks, ND. I personally wouldn't buy a home in Neche.I like Cavalier. It has a nice small town feel and the school is pretty good. It has a cute downtown and 2 restaurants, 1 fast food joint, and a few stores. If you want great schools you need to go a few miles east into Minnesota. I know a decent amount about this area and the schools because I have been doing the research myself. Feel free to send me a personal meesage if you need more info.

Exclamation Neche Information wanted

I have been trying to collect historic information on my home town of Neche, North Dakota. I was born in Neche and graduated in 1950 from the Public School there. I recently got involved in a project and wanted to find both early and present history on the TOWN of Neche. I have the two Reunion books published a few years back but my quest is more about the town's history and it's evolution from inception. I understand this data would also include the efforts and participation of the personell who were effective in the formulation of the towns happenings.

I, No longer living in the vicinity, I would apprecate help with Pictures, Stories, Lore and Factual Data, dating from the present to the early days of Neche's origin.

I have a strong desire to accumulate any tidbits of data relating to the growth and decline in activities of my beloved birth place. I will compile this data and make it available to those who may be interested in my collectives. I will also credit those who send me data I add to my collection.

If you would like to help me or share in my task please e-mail me at llo_co1@yahoo.com .
I would be most appreciative of any support you might pass on to me. If snail mail works better for you, we can do that too. [Data you share on this task can be returned if this is required.]

I am open also to suggestions/comments on this subject.

Lloyd Collison

I am interested in any news worthy items/photos in the Neche History that reflect the way of life and the progress in time of the town to its heyday and the status to the present. Major events and milestones of the town itself would be of great interest. Events over the years that were noteworthy are a definite also needed. I have the local books that were published so data in those are already known. I have questions like: How was the tilting floor in the "old Red Hall" constructed, when did Neche first start growing potatoes for export, when did the Great NOrthern tear up the RR tracks and cease service to Neche etc. HISTORY things. Come on people help me !

I am still searching for Neche Data for my History research. If you have something to contribute, I beg you to send it to me or at least contact me. Nothing is to trivial and may open other doors. The more information I receive the more useful this data will be. I need your help !
