saw an ad in the local paper offering a free month at Young Town Terrace Apts in Walhalla. Manager rented me the apartment, and AFTER I moved in and paid a full month plus deposit, no free month

Well, one month plus rent is pretty much industry standard. I'd imagine the deal was one free month if you actually sign a lease, right?

If that was the deal the manager, [Mod cut] , should not have advertised one month free in the paper, then told us the day we looked at it, we would get a free month...When she dropped off a copy of the rental agreement, it had a yellow post it attached that clearly stated she had included the free months rent in her calculations of what we owed and when, but the figures didn't add up, so we called her and she rudely stated we weren't getting anything free.
Classic bait and switch, advertise a free months rent in the paper, move your renters in and then deny the promised lure. We would have rented at the other apartments, which were newer, larger and included a dishwasher if she had not advertised and agreed to a free month's rent...just a warning to anyone considering renting in Youngstown. We were planning on renting there for a year or two, but was so upset at being lied to, moved to Langdon into a very nice house that is actually cheaper and much more private. We considered taking them to court but it wasn't worth the trouble.
