My Outback lost its auto trans at 50 K, Sub was good about replacing it but one look at $5500 bill had me tradeing for my previous Sentra wich gave me 140K trouble free miles until I traded it.
I dont think there is any sig. difference between Oriental brands.
Ya, the older Subbies had problems with auto trans and head gaskets. I bought a used model that was a few years old. Those issues that plagued the older models do not affect the newer models. I have very good reliability overall and drive 25-30K miles per year with many of those months featuring snow packed rural roads.
People only get stranded in a blizzard because they failed to heed the numerous warnings of a blizzard coming. Like evryone else here has said lots of wieght in the back of the truck and you can be ok.
So how does everyone react when an employee calls out of work because of snow. I know around here it happens alot, they can't get their car out, the roads are too slippery, they don't have a good car to drive in snow, etc. People here are frantic when it snows and they hate to drive in it for lots of reasons.
I mean, do you get laughed at in ND if you call out of work for snow or ice??? I'm not trying to sound silly, I realize it does LOL but around here it's common to miss work if we have a big snow which to us is 8". Go ahead and laugh LOL!
I suppose it depends on how bad it is out. When I was an apartment-dweller, I had to call in a few times for my car being plowed in along the street, and never had any real problems.

Not unless you live out of town. What shuts down most of America is considered a light snow fall here. If we get eight inches the streets are plowed by the end of the day, that is if it snowed overnight.
