Hello,

My family and I have been through a hell-of-a year, 2 major surgeries and a job loss. We have come to realize that the most important things through all of this is family and quality of life.

We are hoping to find an area that will allow us to buy a inexpensive peace of dirt and put a mobile home on it until we buid the house. We would like to find a place to grow veggies, the kids can play in the yard.

Snow is great.

Do y'all have any thoughts if ND is a fit for us

Well, North Dakota would welcome someone that's hard working. But, ND has a very short growing season, so you might have to do something besides growing veggies. Other than that, ND is a safe place for your kids.
Yes! I agree, your health is most important! Quality of life is good here. We moved back to ND after 40 years, so we know a little about the state...
Good luck on your move..

My husband and I are moving to ND for the same reasons. My husband is currently in the bismarck area working and I am joining him with the kids soon. We are moving from NC and there is nothing here. We are tired of working 7 days a week and others raising our kids. There has to be another way. Good luck in your move.

If that's your definition of a good life for your kids than ND will likely do you fine. If you want a good education and opportunities for your kids beyond school to make their own way in the world, there are far better places to explore.

I lived in Minot for 7 years and though we are originally from San Antonio, we would move back if circumstances permitted. Very, very safe and affordable place...watch out for heating bills in the winter though!

North Dakota schools are excellent from my experiences in college at Minot State University, as well as what I am seeing with my kids in there elementary schools. As for opportunities afterwards in the state, in general I have found that make sure and push for your kids to take internships at companies in the fields they would like to work at, and they should be fine. In my case, I went abroad to for work, gained some experience, then came back.

The main thing I would do though if I was you was confirm the work you are willing to do, how much income you feel you need, and then find out as much info as you can about the areas you would like to live. I would then line up the work, get a rental for 6 - 12 months and see how you like things first and get used to the area.

Good Luck!
