Is there any reason for me to bring my dehumidifier from NY to ND? Being orig. from Amarillo, I expect not, but thought I'd check. The basements here in NY get awfully damp as the warm air hits the cooler basement. Then again, I live 1 mile from Lake Champlain.
yes. Keep your humidifier. Depending on the home, some basement will get that damp feeling and a dehumidifier helps. I keep my running from late spring until mid fall. I don't have water in my basement but it just feels damp to me. could be that I'm getting use to the low humidity up here. ):
In the winter getting humidity into the air is an issue. I grew up in the area and we ran a humidifer 6 months a year. Be prepared for dry skin and staticy clothes in the winter.

That's the problem here, too. Humid in the basement in the summer, dry in the winter. Does wonders for the furniture. I love having to have both a humidifier and dehumidifier.

I have a basement home....and we do similar.
During the winter...the heat runs so the main level RH can get low...though we only use humidifer in babies room. The basement is warm enough that RH levels are comfortable.
In the summer....the basement stays cool so need the de-humidifier while the main level is fine.

Compared to back east or down south you won't even feel the humidity in Minot.
True about that. I live in the suburbs of Atlanta. Extremely humid down here, and hot. The minute the sun comes up it starts to get a bit warm. Part of the reason I wake up early to walk to school. I leave late so I can avoid the sun. Minot would actually be quite nice. Yes, I would get the sun, but it would be alot drier.
I think it would be fine to bring but to me, the humidity is not anything to complain about. In the winter, it gets super dry, though, so you will probably only need it for the few months they call summer here. Yesterday it was 66 degrees. That's not summer! But it's nice, I'm not gonna complain about not sweating it out in 100 degree weather with 99% humidity.

I wouldn't be complaining either.
