got some mis-information from the pike county sheriffs dept.. according to them they said new yorkers with residence permits can shoot legally in pa...

while pa doesnt really care about who shoots in pa as long as the firearms are legally owned it seems nypd does ..

in the eyes of new york state the residence permit does not allow transporting the firearms out of state unless hunting .. we found out residence
permits were revoked for going to other states to target shoot.

in fact just transporting without going hunting or to an authorized nyc range can get you your permit revoked..

just a heads up for all the nyc folks who have homes in pa also and like to use the local pa ranges but have nyc residence permits...

Guess now you'll have to buy guns in PA and leave 'em here?

Wow, that's just wrong....on so many levels. Once more laws are not thought out. How does this law protect anyone or anything? What good does this law do? As if it will stop the hauling of illegal firearms across state lines...

the problem there is your new york city permit has to be cancelled because you cant keep them at any place other then the address on the permit ...

if you cancel your nyc permit the question that no one can answer is do you still legally own the firearms since your particular claim to owning them legally was the issuance of the nyc permit.....

a pa resident can just buy them, but we arent pa residents without a pa drivers licence... we cant do the licence because that would be fraud on your insurance if your not a full time resident we heard.

it looks like until someone is a full time resident of pa it may be best to forget about bringing your stuff to pa...

Sounds more like, rather than roll over and play dead...contact some congressmen/senators and try to get that crazy law changed! Or are all your law makers in NY anti-gun?

it seems it also applys to new jersey residents as well unless they have a ccw permit.. while they can go to a range with just a firearms id card it must be unbroken travel with no stops or stayovers and the firearms can only be possesed at the primary address not a 2nd home.....

i couldnt get a clarification if they could leave the state for the day to shoot and come right home without ccw either...

So, what exactly, is this law trying to accomplish, other than infringe on the rights of law abiding citizens? If you are a criminal who owned an illegal gun, there would be no problem...lol

The NYPD routinely ignores federal firearms laws (firearm owner's protection act, which allows transport of arms across unfriendly states provided certain conditions are met). I wouldn't trust them to be accurately explaining NY law (which is bad, NY tries hard to discourage most from getting one, but to my knowledge they're lying). Cops are allowed to lie, never ask one for legal advice. It's perfectly legal for a NY handgun owner to take a gun with them to another state on a visit for any legal purposes.

thats not correct. only permits that allow you off premise with no restrictions apply to the federal law in nyc , thats only ccw... everything else our court already ruled on it. the federal law only applys when you can be off premises restriction free.

in english this was the summary of the case

"Court upholds police commissioner's revocation of New York man's pistol license based on his transport of the handgun to Nevada for a gun convention, when the license only allowed the transport of the gun to authorized hunting areas, and to nyc approved ranges in state. The court rejected the gun owner's argument that his actions were authorized by the Firearms Owners' Protection Act (FOPA), 18 U.S.C. Sec. 926A, allowing the transporting of guns for any lawful purpose between two locations where the gun could lawfully be possessed and carried. The FOPA did not apply because the license did not authorize the lawfully carrying of the gun on the trip to another state. Beach v. Kelly, No. 4012, 113372/06, 2008 N.Y. App. Div. Lexis 5675 (A.D. 1st Dept"

same restrictions apply if you are from new jersey and come to pa to shoot and you stay over... you cant unless you have a ccw.. you can can only go to the range and back home to your residence un-interrupted ....

When I first applied for a permit in Pike County one of the questions on the form was: "Are you a habitual drunk"?

Then, I was suprised that they do not finger print you. New York is very strict with fingerprints. There is NO transporting, and you can not have 2 permits. It is the primary place of residence - legal residence.

However, I like the fact that you can full carry here. Law enforcement response is just non existent in quick timing - due to budget cut backs.
