After relocating to East Stroudsburg. I kinda of enjoy living in a community that is not easily acessible. I came here for the quietness. I traded noise, pollution, third world people, crime, drugs, poverty for land and deers. I like coming in the dark. Will the train help the poconos or destroy it ? I lived in NYC for years, let me tell you folks the trains can serve as a conduit for all types of criminal activity with such a large content of NewYorkers here this could back fire. I say if a train does come it should be limited to morning rush hour one way and evening rush hour one way service only NO FULL OR AROUND THE CLOCK SERVICE. HELP SAVE THE POCONOS !

What is the real story about the train? Is it a garbage train, passanger train or both? Is it really a possibilty? There have been many stories over the years,But still no train?
Will it Help or hurt? Will the Casinos(sp) help or hurt?what about Wall street 2 will that help or hurt? As a homeowner in pocono Farms residing in Tobyhanna ,I sometimes wonder if It could get worse.

The problem with Tobyhanna it seems, is that the Private Communities are more corrupt than they are in East Stroudsburg. The private communities are the flame to the problems in the poconos because most board members are either clowns or hide the problems that should be reported and acted upon.

In my community we have a rule that all garbage should be placed in the garage most people dont do it and we have had bear problems. I reported it and the Jack Ass who runs the community told me quote (They all good people)

The train has been promised for over 20 years...........so don't hold your breath.
When I first came to the Poconos 13 years ago..........it was quiet.
Dark streets took a bit of getting use too. But, it was so peaceful, soulfull
The deer were awesome, but........hide all your flowers and shrubs.
I loved it totally.........and I didn't mind the stores coming that was great too.
But, after 9/11 .........what was here, slowly is drifting away.
More cars, more traffic, less of the pocono friendly waves........and more rush, rush........hurry, hurry........push, shove.....crime......unsafe streets...shootings where there never was before. It was sad........
The train...........It will be many, years off........perhaps a decade or more.
I would not worry.

If a train comes, I think our homes here will go up in value and then I'm selling and moving.

Hahahaha..nice post MollyMe....!!!

A train will definitely help reduce some of the congestion on your highways, plus all the commuters will be parked at the train station rather than on 22, 78, 309, 80 etc trying to commute to work in NJ and NY. This means less burdens on the roads and not having to worry about getting stuck in traffic like it is now.

I heard about this train project a while ago and read something about it being delayed on the NJ side. NJ transit is another ...... hmmmm let me hold my thoughts on this one.

Being against the train is stupid. Some people just can't see the big picture and it's frustrating.

Fact: People are already in the Poconos that commute to NYC/NJ
Fact: Roads are already full of traffic
Fact: More people are moving in every day, and they all HAVE to drive

Yes, that's right folks, the people are already there and more are moving there in droves...the roads are at or over capacity. We can only pave so much. The obvious solution is to build a commuter rail which will take cars off the road and mean less pollution!

When we moved to the poconos 11 years ago, the train was used as a selling tool. We were told once the train comes in your house will go up in value. Well 11 years later and still no train. I wouldnt worry too much about it.

Danwxman.........I don't think too many people are not for the train. Many want it. The fact is it has been a promise for over 20 years! My parents laughed at me when I mentioned it because it would have ran just below my previous development. I wanted to take it to the shows in the city.
(they knew it was a long, lost promise) Here are some facts.........
a. There is too much red tape with it, and its not going anywhere soon
b. Stops.........people say that it will have so, so, many stops along the way to the city, that a bus that does not make stops would be faster and more convenient. The bus service is great, plenty of buses and time schedules.
c. There is a bridge over the Delaware River that is cement and if I am not mistaken 100 years old or more......this use to be a train bridge.......It has to be replaced. This would be a huge undertaking and I don't see anyone tackling it. A huge issue is this bridge its in the Portland area.
d. The train was coming, the train never came........and everyone is left stranded at the tracks. ( for traffic reason, all commuters should hop the bus)

I agree with you DanWxMan. I don't commute but I am thinking of moving to Northeastern PA to be near my grandkids. Look at the mess on Route 80 right now, ever since those trucks crashed. Right? Having a commuter rail would be fantastic for commuters. Bayonne, NJ has a commuter rail which is fairly new and I have friends in Bayonne who never complained about it being built. What about Penn Station in NYC? What a great way to commute from there.

So I definitely agree that having a commuter rail in the Poconos would be a wonderful asset to an already huge traffic problem on Route 80 East in the mornings.
