My parents pay roughly $4,000 annually in property taxes for a 3-BR, 1-BA, 1,800-square-foot home in Luzerne County on a 3/4-acre lot.

WOW!!! They assessed a house that small at nearly a million? $900,000 for a house that small?! Because that's the only way they could be paying that much when the tax rate is 4.5 per thousand.

I think your parents are exaggerating, just a tad, or a few thousand.

You're only looking at the county tax rate...on top of that, there's school tax, and city/borough/township tax.

I peeked at some homes in Wayne. The taxes seemed high. I also did biz with someone there and she said they've gone up a LOT in the last few years. Am I missing something. I'm in the 200k range, homwise.

What he said. My parents' home is worth $200,000, just slightly above average for Pittston Township.
