Greetings. I am going to be moving to the Scranton area soon (from Texas), and I am trying to work out my budget so I know what range of housing I can afford.

Can anyone tell me what the total (federal/state/etc all together) percent I can expect to lose from my paycheck for taxes is? I tried researching it but I'm a bit confused as Scranton seems to be different from everywhere else in PA..

If you opt to live in Scranton proper, you will be subject to a 3.4% wage tax. Most of the surrounding municipalities have a 1 or 1 1/2% tax. This is in addition to a 3.07% state income tax and a 6% PA sales tax, which doesn't apply to food or clothing. The federal tax is standard based on your earnings. Property taxes are something else. HTH.

That does help me out a great deal! Thank you so much for the extra information about the sales taxes, as I didn't know that.
