Gov - elect Corbett has a plan to sell off the Pa State Liquor Store empire. I totally agree with his view on this.

Not only will it raise much needed monies to offset Pa financial hardships, it will get rid of the unnecessary bureaucracy and its associated payroll/pension costs.

Once in private hands, I think the next logical step would be to loosen up on some of the archaic practices of the PA LCB, and drastically trim down that bloated agency of politicos as well.

After more than a decade here I've kinda warmed up to the state stores idea. They really aren't more expensive from what I can see, and they do help keep taxes down. The employees are trained and knowledgeable even in the furthest backwaters of the Commonwealth.

I'm not sure who thought the machines would be anything but a bad joke, surely whatever committee had to come up with them agreed on nothing but designing them to fail.

Beer sales, notary, and vehicle inspection standards are three aspects of PA life I haven't warmed up to yet. And after coming in from a nice hike today I'm glad Sunday hunting hasn't come in yet.

Yeah, God forbid somebody actually not enjoying something about PA and expressing it. Sometimes you got to buck the status quo.

I would have to agree with Corbett's plan to stop these strange and out dated laws.
This is a joke, and as I understand you have to pay a buck more just to go through all that nonsense.

How is it a joke? What nonsense?

You think the liquor laws here are bad, be glad its not Utah. It is what it is and you have to accept the way it is or don't, but either way complaining about it isn't going to do anything.

Yes it did but nowadays its about the money, specifically the overpaid clerks and the jobs used as political hand outs.

Most of the revenue they generate is from taxes which would carry over to privatization. PA is one of the largest purchasers of alcohol in the entire world by volume, if they can't deliver lower costs than neighboring states the PLCB needs to go.

According to this article
they make an average of $30K plus benefits and a pension.

You're worth what someone is willing to pay you, standing behind a cash register and stocking shelves is not a $30K a year job with bennies. The clerks now working there might make that kind of money in private upscale retail business's specializing in expensive wines and liquors if they have the knowledge but that's a limited market.

It really is all about the money.
The way that wine or cake or pizza are dispensed are not reasons why I would move to or from an area. BFD....Just an obsrvation from a transplant.
Nothing more.

But I do suspect that I will be posting many, many more threads that are positive, inquisitive, and provocative.

So just get used to it cause it's not going away.

I think the liquor laws are ridiculous and totally outdated. Who says people have to agree with EVERYTHING their new home state does?! What an idiotic concept!

As far as the machines? Dumb. People get past it (and have already) by paying others to do the dirty work for them.

As for the "be glad it's not Utah" comment, that is a cop out.
