We're dropping off our kids at camp just over the NY border, about 20 min. from Milford, PA, and we're hoping to spend 2-3 nights in a place within 1.5 hours of that area. Is there a quaint, pretty town or nice Inn or resort close to hiking/canoeing/biking? Preferably casual with great restaurants nearby. Thanks!

Try looking into the Settlers Inn in Hawley, PA. I am sure they have a website. Hawley is a very nice town, quaint, small shops, antique shops, restaurants. All what you would expect to find in a quaint PA town! It would be within the distance you referred to.

Default milford, pa area

Thanks for the recommendations. Settlers Inn looks lovely! Unfortunately, they're booked for the time we'll be there. But I'll keep looking around that area.

There are several small motels in the Lake Wallenpaupack Area on Route 507 (Greshams's, Sandy Shore). There is also a place called Bil-Mar that rents small cottages that are right on the lake. These are not resorts, but it is a nice area to spend a few days. There are several nice restaurants (Erhardt's, the Boat House, Settler's Inn). There is a place called Wallenpaupack Sport Shop that rents boats, and there are many marinas around the lake that could also point you in the right direction for that. You could also drive about 15 minutes to Promised Land State Park. They have biking/hiking trails and lake with lots of activities. If you need any phone numbers, let me know and I'll look them up for you.

There is also a boat tour on Lake Wallenpaupack that gives one hour boat rides. I think the boat takes off in Hawley. A little past the high school on Rt.6 by the big lake. I also like Milford too because it bears my last name.

Many thanks to you both, Greentown and Rmilford42! This is all great stuff! We're looking for accommodations that are not too "rustic," so I'll check out the names you suggested online.

If I can add my two cents here. The Lake region of the Poconos is a beautiful area. Like Greentown said, Erhardt's is a very good restaurant. And that boat tour rmilford42 speaks of is on Rt.6 in Hawley. It's across from Gresham's Landing/East Shore Lodging. You might want to check on staying there also. The boat tour itself is on either a 28 foot or 32 foot patio boat. Like stated, it is a one-hour ride around Lake Wallenpaupack. Nice scenary. You will enjoy it. Hope we all helped you out on your upcoming visit.

Thumbs up re Promised Land State Park. Nice place to spend the day with a picnic lunch. You can rent a boat, kayak or canoe. Very clean facilities and even a small beach!

If you want a really nice resort try woodloch pines/ springs- they have a lake, a golf course all kinds of activities, I believe it is listed in hawley but it is in the Greeley/lackawaxen/Rowland area, The reason I mention those towns is because there are a lot of camps in that area, and it might be close to your childs camp. I am sure that of you ask in the camp office they will have info on hotel/resort/ restaurants in the area as well. I know the camp I used to work for had a sheet of paper with all the local places and phone #s as well.
