Okay, so Matamoras isn't as swank as Milford
..but please share your thoughts and opinions about the town.

We'd really like to relocate to the area.. maybe Matamoras, whaddya think?
Near I-84, (proximity to relatives in NY state).
We had driven through Matamoras a while ago, without a photograph in my head about the place..

Can you describe in words some thoughts about the town..

1. Does Matamoras have a charming little downtown, walkable, interesting shops, good restaurants, a creative vibe? (we want walkable).

2. IS IT ARTSY?

3. Is it safe, (not a druggy town, is it) ?

4. Are the people generally kind, pleasant, friendly?

5. Is there any points of interest, or museums to note?

6. Does it routinely get flooded in the spring?

8. Whatever I'm forgetting to ask about, please elaborate or forewarn.

Thanks..
*really, Milford would have been 1st choice, but in-town too pricey.

How can you really say anything nice about a town whose name means "killer of Moores?"

Seriously??!
Matamoras was originally part of Westfall Township. Its name came from the Mexican town of Matamoros, (see below) which was the first to be occupied by U.S. troops during the Mexican-American War. It was incorporated as a borough on January 18, 1905.

It's got a bunch of strip mall stores and services (K-Mart, etc.). Not sure about the quality of housing. But it's just across the bridge from Port Jervis, where you can get trains to NYC

Well, they have a Price Chopper supermarket. I haven't been up there in quite a while but my son trained at that store before the Marshalls Creek store was completed.

Wow, flashback to 'True Romance' 1993 Tarantino movie where Dennis Hopper explains to Sicilian heritaged mob boss(Christopher Walken ) that all Sicilians are descendants of the Moors because they invaded Sicily hundreds of years ago and, well, ya know...

It's a great scene... called the 'Sicilian Scene' on YouTube.. Warning; .graphic, swear words, racial slurs.

of course, CW does not take the news well...
