This is something I've been meaning to ask, as I'm a major cheese addict. Are there any specialty stores in NEPA (besides the supermarkets, where the cheapest comes to around $3.50 a pound) where you can get good deals on cheese at wholesale (or near) prices? For example, where food stores or restaurants may buy from. There's a place called igourmet.com in West Pittston, but they are more high-end and only ship by mail, you can't actually visit the place to buy. One time a few years back, down south, there was a "distressed" food store which sold bent cans and slightly expired stuff, and I was able to get a 10 lb wheel of provolone for $9.00 (just once). I don't know if there are any stores like that around here either (for distressed groceries in general). But for cheese, there's probably someplace like that in the area, where you can buy a whole wheel or get one cut, etc., I just haven't found it yet. Anyone have any clues on where to try?

My wife has shopped at Main Source in Kingston. That's all I can think of.

Mainesource Food & Party Warehouse

I assumed you have gone to Sam's Club?

I know of some very good cheese and wine specialty shops, but they are down near Philly.

I will have to check out Maine Source, have heard of them but never been there. I'm a member of Sams Club, but we just don't seem to be shopping there that much, and I might let my membership lapse after 10 years. We have a limited budget lately. $40 is a lot, and we mostly go there for tires & such. Thanks.

There's another place like Main Source, can't remeber the name of it and it's not a big place. It's across Wyoming Ave. from the FF cemetery on the other side of the street from Turkey Hill.

Schiffs is worth checking out. They have cheese and sell to restaurants and retail.

That's Keyco Warehouse Outlet. 287-2545 You might want to call first. The store is very small, and they might not have what you're looking for. They do have bulk items and we've shopped there when we're having a big party.

Yes, Maine Source is pretty good, the only one I've checked out so far, and they do have big pieces of cheese, like 10 lbs. The cheapest is Mozzarella (1.99/lb), then Provolone (2.29), they also have Swiss (3.08) if you buy 10 lbs.
If you are a Cheese Whiz (yuk) addict like my wife, they have a 6.5 lb can for 15.99, you save almost $10 in the equivalent of buying it in the little jars.

You can get igourmet.com cheese at the wine and cheese store at the casino. But it is not cheap. Every few years igourmet.com does open their warehouse for overstock purchases.

You can buy in bulk at the LeRaysville Cheese Co, in LeRaysville, PA located north of Wyalusing in Bradford County. They manufacture a variety of artisan cheeses using hormone free milk from local farms. Since you cut out the wholesaler and retailer, you will probably get a good price. That's the only cheese factory in NEPA open to the public that I know of.
