Just asked about a good place to purchase privacy fencing, so while we are at it, does anyone know of a good nursery?
A drive to the country would actually be relaxing!

Stantons Greenhouse in Clarks Summit, just off Layton Road, has the healthiest ,beautiful plants. I have been using them for years.

How far of a drive? We have good friends who own a nursery south of Allentown.

Somerset Nursery - Current Promotions - 6671 Chestnut Street | Zionsville | PA | 18092

north would be Gibbs in Leraysville, and Hearthstone just outside of Leraysville.

not sure of their prices but hearthstone especially is great! She has an old house and the nursery is right next to it. Dirt road, stone wall, awesome place.

Pretty sure Stanton is out of business. They put the greenhouse up for sale last year and closed early in the season. Don't think they opened this year, but I could be wrong

sheena12,

Instead of the nursery; have you considered growing your own? I know that you have to buy some foliage to start. However; growing your own can be fun and almost free.

There is a product called Root Tone available almost anywhere that sells plants and gardening supplies. You can get cuttings from your family and friends. Then follow the directions and hints you can get online. It is nice to have plants that your great aunt had in her garden - I mean plants with a personal history.

You can also start some plants from seed - like apple trees. You trick the plants into sprouting by placing them in a folded wet paper towel, in a plastic bag, in the refrigerator. After several weeks they can start to sprout - then transplant them into dirt. It takes a long time and a lot of babysitting until they can make it on their own. However; it is a fun project and you can graft them (which is another project).

Also; check out your friends and relatives to see if they have ground cover that they want thinned.
It is nice to have shrubbery that has history or the do-it-yourself pride.

Oh no they are not! I just used them! And they are priced well. I did go to Corky's which is a bit more up Layton Road.. and they just don't compare as far as flowers go.. .BUT Corky's is a real nice store to buy other things from.. But Stanton's hands down has the biggest , healthiest plants..I stake my life on that! And they neverrr put their green house up for sale! I know these people..only from buying their flowers.
If anyone is needing to buy a gift.. I really can not express how beautiful a store Corky's is. You will always come out of there with something. It is just a stunning site for your eyes. I could spend hours in there! I have been to many garden places far, and near.. Stanton's has it for flowers..and in July they have a great sale, and eventually free flowers.. And Corky's has it if you want a garden type gift in summer. But they have wonderful xmas gifts. They are open year round.. Believe me.. grab you flowers at Staton's and then go up just a bit further..corner.. I think it is called Justus corner? And try Corkys.. it just puts me in a wonderful summer mode!
