When sombody asks a question on this or any board about an area it is really not helpful to suggest that they "call a realtor" I would think most people who know how to put on their shoes are aware of that resource. Most people myself included are looking for an opinion from people who haved lived it not the salespitch of someone out to make a buck....

I guess you posted this because someone suggested that in your original post from July 23rd...but it is not a bad or wrong idea/suggestion...not all realtors are just out to make a buck as you suggest...there are many that know what their doing and are willing to go the extra mile for their customers...besides most are native of the area and who better to ask...for someone throwing out their $100K/year salary work from home job experience you are certainly able to afford to find a VERY GOOD realtor specializing in high class real estate as I doubt your looking for a $50K/trailer park home...so first do YOUR homework and maybe then you'll have a better idea of what your looking for...anyone with a $100K/year salary surely is intelligent enough to know this beforehand...you don't get there by accident...also it's insulting to others considering how the economy is out here...but anyway as you should know and has been suggested a realtor will be better suited to assist you with your needs...

I've met a couple of really, really, good realtors in my time. That said, you should probably go to the local bar, hoist a few, make some friends and learn all of the local dirt. People who have lived in an area for years know what's going on.

I don't know about altruistic but Realtors provide a valuable service and the happier their clients are, the much more likely they are to recommend them to their friends. We always did the basic school research before we contacted a Realtor, but once we knew the school district, we got in touch with one. We probably saw over two dozen houses before we settled on our current one.
