If you are familiar with the events at the Comm and have picked out a house then you know Waverly. There are no hidden evils which you are missing. It is very nice. A bit on the quiet side, but you are only a mile from Dalton and a couple of miles from Clarks Summit. If you found a house which fits you, then I think you will be very happy with your purchase.

Waverly isn't cheap. Housing is rather expensive and so are property taxes. It's located in the Abington Heights School District, which is a good school, but has rather high taxes. Other than that, I always liked Waverly (grew-up in Dalton). The Abington Area in general is a great place to raise kids. There's also never a shortage of soccer moms and country club goers LOL (just kidding, a common stereotype of the area). There's also many rec. sports programs for your son. If he's into soccer, you might want to check out the Abington Youth Soccer League (AYSL). The Dalton and Abington Comm. Libraries also have summer programs for reading as well.

Side Note: Pay no attention to any future posts coming from disgruntled CD members who live in the city. Whenever Abington is mentioned in this forum, you get people talking about McMansions, country clubs, snobs, suburban sprawl, Stepford, how the Abingtons are ruining Scranton, etc. If you're familiar with Waverly and really like the town, you will be happy there. The area is one of the best IMO, to raise kids. Great community. Don't listen to the haters.

The Abingtons aren't ruining Scranton; they already did!

Scranton ruined Scranton, the Abingtons just gave people a better place to move to. Its not their fault that the city is a hell hole.....

I was just kidding. How could the Abingtons have ruined Scranton? It isn't ruined. Scranton is not a hell hole. What a silly thing to say. The Abingtons a better place? What an even sillier thing to say. You are a silly person. Thanks for the laughs!

If I was to move out of Scranton, it wouldn't be to the snooty Abingtons. I would go to either the Mid-Valley, Jermyn/Mayfield, or maybe closer to W-B in either Kingston or West Pittston areas.

The city's not a hell hole, well, at least not yet. Still a lot of good neighborhoods left, I think the nice areas still outnumber the ghettos. Hopefully Doherty can be sent packing before its too late.

But the sheeple will still flock like a bunch of lemmings to buy a new particle-board McMansion on a cul-de-sac in the Abingtons. If people would stay and make the city better rather than running and leaving their hometown to go to crap, we'd be in much better shape.

I think this sums up Waverly:

I will say at least Waverly is unlike South Abington in that Waverly has some nice older historic homes. Waverly is sort of a blue-blood old-money area, and South Abington is more of the wanna-be rich people.
