Hello all,

I was wondering how the postal service and garbage collection service works in Shohola. We're only a few days away from moving in, and was told that garbage is done by private companies. Does anyone have any recommendations and approximate prices for weekly garbage pickup? Do they also supply the trash cans, or must I buy my own?

Regarding the mail, I see on the end of my street a large mail box unit with what I'm assuming are individual boxes assigned to the homes in my community. I wasn't given a key though, and we do have a separate mailbox at the top of our driveway. Does the postman deliver daily, and would he drop and pickup mail from the box on my property?

Sorry if these sound like silly questions, but this is the first time we've had to deal with issues like this in a rural environment. Any tips or info you could give is greatly appreciated.

Did some research and it seems Waste Management services my area. Interesting to note that they charge by the amount of bags picked up. 4 bags a week is about $34. Is WM the only game in town for trash collection/recycling?

There are others in the area as well. Charles Stuehl (spelling?) Is the company that picks up many of the homes in the area...they are local. Can't help you with the mail...although I believe that mailbox at the community entrance is normally where they drop off. The one outside the house may be for newspapers ect....

P.S.: I bet if you call the folks at Shohola elementary one of them can give you some information...or at least point you in the right direction...Mrs. Lamberton and Mrs. Rustin are great

Thanks for the tips. Will check out Charles. I was able to contact the post office directly and have that taken care of.

We've been using M&S for trash. I'm very happy with their service. Only $24/mo, they provide us with cans, and they pick up single-stream recycling as well.

unfortunately, M&S had a bad fire at their garage on Route 6 the other night and lost 2 of their brand new garbage trucks. Let's say a prayer that they will rebuild and stay with us and their great service to our community.
