Dear suckers voters:

Thanks for getting us elected again. As a token of our appreciation, please accept this 38% property tax hike from the bottom of our hearts.

Sincerely,
Corey O'Brien and the rest of the county's Democrat Party.

They knew that they were going to do it, thats why the real budget didn't get released until after the election.....

Welcome to Lackawanna County..

The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.

-Winston Churchill

I am now firmly convinced that the voters of Lackawanna County have ancestry traced to sheep... they are Sheeple. They deserve what the get, City and County wide.

Just out of curiosity; has Lackawanna County had previous large hikes in their property taxes? If this is the first raise in twenty years we could maybe understand it.

My local township just loves to raise our taxes 10% every year - even though I live two miles from the casino that is supposed to keep our taxes in check.

Not in twenty years, but six years. The last one was a 48% hike in 2005.

What part of "the economy sucks" don't they understand? It is bad for the county, but guess what? It is also bad for the taxpayers. Look at their department lists here and you'll see plenty of opportunities to cut costs: Lackawanna County Departments/Agencies

Do we really need to pay someone to oversee the Seatbelt Safety Program?
Arts and Culture is nice to have, but it is not a necessity. For the $200 extra that I'll pay in taxes, I can board a Martz bus and see a Broadway show in NYC, complete with dinner.
The Lackawanna County Visitor's Center is always empty. These days people do their research online. You can probably replace that entire building with a brochure stand and no one will notice.

It is the old argument about squeezing blood from a stone. It is all one downhill spiral. The more they tax; the more that go out of business, sell, or default on their mortgages - that, in turn, cuts the amount of collected taxes and it puts more on assistance.

Government has to learn how to work efficiently - unfortunately the word is not in their vocabulary.

This is just to funny. People voluntarily went to the polls, pulled the trigger straight D, like they have been for 80 years and then expect different results. And in the next election it will be the same.

Why can't you haters just bend over and grab your ankles like the people in Ohio did when it came to paying for obscene public employee pensions?
