Hi,

This is gonna sound crazy, but I'm trying to find out if a place in PA (near Dutch Country, possibly?) is still around.

I went there a couple of times while on vacation with my family from NY back in the mid-late 70's. If my memory serves me correctly, it was a family style restaurant with a country store attached. I DO remember getting wooden nickels to buy penny candy.

Does this ring a bell for anyone? I'd love to visit again if we're ever back in PA.

Was it not far from Dutch Wonderland? I think I know a similar place, they had a scale by the register and kids paid according to what they weighed. If thats the place, can't remember the name...well it isn't there anymore.
The Lancaster area has succombed to a lot of commercialism. This restaurant was a favorite of our family, only to be leveled to the ground and replaced by 2 chain restaurants.

Thank you both for your posts. I've checked out the your post on the main PA page, and I do believe it was the Country Cupboard.

Can't wait to come back and check it out!

Cherie

Default restaurant in lancaster pa

The ones that I know are still there are Good N plenty, Dutch Haven, Plain and fancy. Those are the three that were there back in the 70's and still exist today. There is now another one that is there called Millers and that one also has family style and the store attached as does the ones above. Hope this helps.

Lisa

I know this is nowhere close to where you were talking about but there is a place called the Wooden Nickel in Kingston that gives out wooden nickels also.

Yeah, it's still there, although it's more along the lines of Hershey Park now. Everyone pays the same price to get in, whether you ride or not. And they have "big" rides now. I remember going and buying a book of tickets, one for each ride, and the biggest thrill ride they had was the log flume.

Remember the wax museum next door with the animated Amish barn raising? The wax museum is closed now. I think that's a darn shame!
